Design & Build Quality

The Andersen A2’s timber-fronted enclosure hides the cable completely — the design premium you’re paying for.
This is where the Andersen A2 justifies its premium price. The unit is crafted from anodised aluminium with a concealed cable compartment — when not in use, the charger looks like a sleek wall-mounted panel with no visible cable. Thirteen metal colours are included in the price, with wood finishes and special editions costing more.
The Zappi is well-built but uses standard industrial design. It's functional and clean, but won't win any design awards. The cable wraps around the outside of the unit.
Features & Technology
The Zappi is the clear winner on features. Its three charging modes (Fast, Eco, Eco+) give you granular control over how your EV charges, especially with solar panels. The myenergi ecosystem also integrates with the eddi (solar diverter for hot water) and libbi (home battery) for a complete home energy management system.
The Andersen A2 is solar compatible on the 7kW model and works with Intelligent Octopus Go and OVO Charge Anytime, so it is not the dumb box its price positioning might suggest. What it does not do is divert surplus generation in real time the way the zappi does, and it does not talk to a hot-water diverter or a battery. It is a charger, not an energy management hub.

Verdict: Which Should You Buy?
Our Recommendation
For most people: the myenergi zappi, from £779. You get solar divert, the myenergi ecosystem and the same charging speeds for several hundred pounds less than the Andersen.
For design-conscious buyers: the Andersen A2, from £1,199. If the charger is on the front of your house and aesthetics matter to you, the Andersen is genuinely beautiful. Just know you're paying a significant premium for design, not features.

Where to buy either one
myenergi sells the zappi direct and you arrange the fitting. Andersen quotes the A2 installed by its own network, which is why its £1,634 figure already includes the work.
If you would rather one company handled everything, several energy suppliers bundle a charger with installation. OVO sells the zappi among others, and Octopus, British Gas and EDF all fit chargers on their own terms. Our cost guide covers what changes an installed price, and the grant checker tells you whether the £500 OZEV grant applies to you.
Want one fitted? Pod Point’s installed price
We don’t arrange installer quotes. Pod Point fits its Solo 3S with its own engineers: £999 with standard installation, or £34 a month for 36 months with nothing upfront until 1 November (checked 1 Oct 2026).
