Independent, expert advice on home EV charging, built by drivers, for drivers.

HomeCharger Guide is an independent UK guide to home EV charging, comparing chargers, tariffs and installation costs for British drivers. We believe that switching to electric transport should be straightforward, affordable, and empowering. And that good, honest information is the foundation of that.
The UK home EV charger market has grown rapidly. There are now dozens of charger models, multiple energy tariff options, evolving government schemes, and a constantly changing landscape of smart features and integrations. For a new EV owner, the information overload can be genuinely overwhelming. We cut through that noise with clear, independently researched content.
We research home EV chargers. That means manufacturer spec sheets and installation manuals, OZEV approval lists, warranty small print, and owner reviews read in the hundreds rather than the handful. We are not a test bench and we do not pretend otherwise: where a claim needs physical testing we have not done, we say so and point at whoever has done it. Our methodology page sets out the process in full.
Beyond hardware reviews, we track electricity tariff rates, installation costs, and government grant availability, all of which change regularly. Our cost guides and tariff comparisons are updated regularly to reflect the current market.
Rankings move on complaints that recur across hundreds of owner reviews, not on one bad experience. We take no free units from manufacturers and no payment for placement.
Costs, savings, and tariff rates are sourced from current supplier data and verified before publication. We flag when estimates involve assumptions.
The EV market moves fast. We update our key guides when prices change, new products launch, or tariffs are revised. Every article carries a "last updated" date.
We explain kW vs kWh, tethered vs untethered, and Octopus Intelligent vs Octopus Go without assuming prior knowledge. EV technology should be accessible to everyone.
Every charger review follows the same route:
HomeCharger Guide earns income three ways. The first is Amazon affiliate commission on our accessories guides, where the products are genuinely stocked on Amazon UK. The second is affiliate commission through the Awin network on links to EV Cable Shop, a UK retailer whose own-brand cables and accessories we list alongside Amazon products. Where you see a “Direct: EV Cable Shop” link next to a branded product, it is a different own-brand alternative, not the same item at another shop. Either way you pay the same price. The third, since 29 September 2026, is Awin commission from Pod Point when someone orders a Pod Point charger through one of our links. Pod Point is the only wallbox maker that pays us; every other charger we cover is sold direct by its maker and earns us nothing. The Pod Point Solo 3S was already fourth in our charger ranking before the programme started, and it has stayed fourth.
Our affiliate relationships do not influence our reviews, rankings, or recommendations. We have awarded lower scores to products sold by affiliate partners, and we have recommended products where we earn no commission. Our editorial decisions are made independently of our commercial relationships.
We welcome feedback, corrections, and tips from readers. If you've spotted an error, have a question, or want to share your own experience with a home charger, please get in touch via our contact page.
We do not accept paid placement, sponsored reviews, or manufacturer-supplied "editorial" content. All content on HomeCharger Guide is written by our team.
